IET London: Savoy Place completes £280k AV investment

The Riverside Room at IET London: Savoy Place has undergone over £280K of investments, adding to the high-quality AV and further transforming the versatile event space (180 cabaret capacity).

Becoming one of London’s leading locations for award dinners, banquets and conferences, The Riverside Room can now be used in full landscape format, as new cameras allow presenters to be filmed from any angle and live relayed onto two new video walls and two additional LED screens, ensuring full delegate visibility. The cameras also allow for a speaker to be recorded and live streamed out of the building.

Newly installed video mapping software can now also be used to compose and manage multiple content across the screens, such as videos, images, live feeds and animations. The software also enables a multitude of branding options for events, from reinforced branding across all screens for events such as exhibitions and award dinners, to neutral graphics during drinks receptions.

The upgrades will have endless benefits to delegates and event organisers alike and the new technology will significantly reduce set-up times and costs.

Royal Society launches its newly refurbished Lecture Hall and team activities

The Royal Society has been busy transforming the Wellcome Trust Lecture Hall into a modern and contemporary space with upgraded state-of-the-art technology, over the summer.

To celebrate the reopening of the space, the venue hosted an exclusive showcase on 10 September 2019, where guests were able to experience the new space, explore the nearby Waterloo gardens and take part in exciting team activities. The evening was a great opportunity to network with industry peers and discuss any future event ideas with the conferencing team.

The dedicated on-site caterers, CH&CO, showcased their interest in sustainable practices and produce through various food stations and creative workshops. The core concept for the hospitality on the evening was designed around foods for the future.

St Martin-in-the-Fields launches new events website

St-Martin-in-the-Fields has now launched a new website dedicated to its venue hire operation – venues.smitf.org.

The venue’s events and sales manager Andrew Papworth said of the new site: ‘When I joined St Martin’s in the summer, I was delighted with the spaces and catering available but didn’t feel our website was showcasing them in the way it should. We needed a new website that was easier to use and helped instead of hindered. I wanted our clients to picture themselves in our spaces whether it was for a conference or a work jolly. As the website evolves, we hope to share further content on what we do here at St Martin’s and this includes showing off our tempting menus created by our Executive Chef Dan Leavy.’

Since the website’s launch on 9 September, St Martin’s has seen website traffic increase by 20% compared to the same week last year. The venue is particularly pleased to see an increase in Christmas bookings from last year and strong initial sales for 2020. St Martin’s welcomes feedback on the new site at [email protected].

The Gallery is located in the heart of London – the centrepiece of Trafalgar Square and the backdrop to historic moments and contemporary celebrations. Imperial College London launches new green initiatives

Imperial College London has recently launched a series of initiatives to enhance its sustainability as an events venue.

From compostable cups, to a ban on clingfilm and specially designed food trolleys, Imperial has recently implemented a variety of changes to support its vision to move towards a more sustainable events industry and a ‘greener’ experience for clients.

Some of the recent initiatives launched include:

  • The use of compostable paper cups
  • The use of reusable crockery rather than single-use crockery
  • Food trolleys with washable fabric covers have been introduced to transport catering around campus, without the need for clingfilm
  • Plastic food containers have been removed and all catering is served on reusable wooden boards
  • Single-use sugar sachets have been swapped in favour of sugar cubes

Imperial is also taking ‘locally sourced’ to the next level with its Queen’s Tower sourdough bread. Fermented on campus in South Kensington, the sourdough is created at the top of the Queen’s Tower and features in several menu items which are available for events.
